Project Description

(Photos were taken before upgrades.) Invited by head of maintenance to identify potential energy-efficient lighting upgrade retrofit options.

GOAL: Primarily to decrease lighting maintenance tasks, such as decrease the frequency of necessary lamp and ballast replacements. Changing CFLs required excessive labor, and pre-arrangement of access to spaces, some of which were labs that contained sensitive materials.

Secondary goal of energy cost reduction.

  • Conducted survey of existing fixtures by walking through structure with facility manager.
  • Took photos, and notes.
  • Researched and produced list of simple, viable retrofit kit options.

Provided information regarding possible lighting control systems for cafeteria atrium space. Significant daylight there means daytime energy usage could be reduced.
